WTS Joint Event at Northeastern9/25/2023
JTO members traveled to Boston to listen to a panel of four engineers at Northeastern University. This event included students from UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, and Northeastern! Students were able to listen and ask questions to professionals from MassDOT, AECOM, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and a professor at Harvard. |
2023 ITE Annual Meeting8/13 - 8/16/2023
Ten UMass students attended the ITE Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon. Many students presented posters or competed in various competitions! They enjoyed attending technical sessions, walking around the exhibit hall, and meeting other students and professionals from across the United States and Canada. |
MassDOT Transportation Innovation Conference5/2 - 5/3/2023
Many JTO members attended and worked at the 2023 MassDOT Transportation Innovation Conference in Worcester! Students were able to attend technical sessions, social events, and check out the technology in the exhibit hall. They even had time for a WooSox game! |

WTS TYOU Summit10/15/2022
It was an amazing experience to volunteer at WTS TYOU Summit at Emmanuel College last Saturday! JTO members had the chance to join teams of engineers from different companies in order to introduce students to transportation engineering concepts and inspire them to plan an education in transportation. |

JTO has an informational conversation with Carrie Lavallee and her expertise in the transportation field. |
AutoCAD Workshop
Bill Lyons Joint Event4/22/2021
ITE hosted our third and final speaker of the semester, Bill Lyons, as a joint event with ASCE and WTS. Bill's topic was Infrastructure in a Conflict Zone. He is currently working on the US Embassy in South Sudan, and discussed the climate-induced failure of infrastructure in the country and its impact on delivery of food aid and on the economy. |
Traffic Rerouting Workshop3/31/2021
We had a traffic rerouting workshop led by our advisor, Professor Knodler. We learned about how a drive-through Covid vaccine site in San Francisco was routing their traffic through a parking lot and brainstormed ways in which they could improve it to increase the number of vaccines given per day. |
Speaker Dustin Kerksieck3/24/2021
Our second speaker of the semester was Dustin Kerksieck from STV who talked about the Green Line Extension project. We saw design plans and renderings of what bridges and stations will look like once completed, as well as pictures of what the construction currently looks like. |
Speaker Chris Lyman3/3/2021
For our first speaker of the Spring 2021 semester, we had UMass alum and ITE student chapter past president Chris Lyman from Howard Stein Hudson talk about street designs and drone projects he has worked on. We learned what drones are capable of in a transportation setting and how Chris collects data for his company. |
Virtual Traffic Bowl9/22/2020
This year's UMass trafffic bowl team consisted of Ian Paterson, Tamara Lord, and Thomas Hannon, with Sahana Natarajan Hariram as our backup. It was everyone's first year, and had a blast. We hope to do better next year! The picture on the left is from a practice round to learn how to compete over zoom. |
